Emmet Brickley graduated with his BFA (Hons) from MTU at the Crawford College of Art & Design in Cork, Ireland in 2016.
He recently presented two solo exhibitions in Co.Cork, ‘ Weird Fishes’ at the Gallery Asia, Clonakilty Arts Centre, and 'Inland' at the Blue House Gallery, Schull. He was a recipient of the Agility Award in 2021 and presented his first major solo exhibition in GOMA Waterford that same year. His work has been acquired for public, private, and corporate collections both nationally and internationally, including the global renewable energy corporation Hep Global and The Glucksman Gallery Permanent Collection in UCC. In his oil paintings, Emmet intertwines figures and environments, using paint to express metaphors related to identity, solitude, and place. The layering of colour and the abstraction of the environment are emphasised, holding equal importance to the anonymous protagonists. Despite the often calm appearance of his work, there's a subtle and dynamic interplay of events beneath the surface. His choice of reference imagery from Google Street View and digital news outlets reflects the evolving impact of the internet on our visual experience.
